We are almost through our unit on SUSPENSE. We will end with a writing assignment and hopefully get into a novel before the end of the term. This will be in addition to our current unit, but will go along with themes that we have focused upon. Here is a breakdown of curricular learning goals for the fall:
READING WRITINGGRAMMAR, USAGE, MECHANICS LISTENING SPEAKING
Vocabulary within context and word part analysis Narrative Essay form Improve spelling and no-nonsense words. Spell all high-frequency words correctly
Simple versus compound sentence mastery within writing Correctly identify parts of speech and diagram simple and compound sentences
Begin identifying and trying to implement more complex sentence types using frames. Write a complete simple sentence using adjectives, adverbs, infinitive and prepositional phrases
plot Write a coherent paragraph
characterization Frame an essay in a coherent order using progression and detail
theme Be able to 'show and not tell' in writing
tone
